چکیده
57-year-old man was admitted to our Institute with a two-week history fever up to 39°C, hepatomegaly and splenomegaly. Hematological findings were as follows: Hb 8.8 g/dL, platelet count 193310/L, WBC 54310/L with neutrophils 12%, lymphocytes 8%, blasts 80%, nucleated red blood cells 65/100 WBC. The immunological studies carried out by flow cytometry showed that circulating blasts were CD2, CD7, CD33, CD13, CD14, CD19 and CD10 negative. Examination of bone marrow aspirate smears revealed the presence of 70% erythroblasts, with a prevalence of proerythroblasts, early erythroblasts and blasts, a few of which contained cytoplasmic granules. The karyotype was normal. Erythroleukemia (EL) in the initial erythremic phase was diagnosed. The patient underwent induction chemotherapy but died two months later with a hematological picture of acute myeloblastic leukemia.

Clinical studies on iron metabolism of erythroblasts in preleukemic stage.
The appearance of sideroblasts in hypoplastic anemia (HAl and acute myelocytic leukemia (AML), together with their sideroblastograms, was studied. Hematological studies on cases with type III sideroblast dominance by sideroblastograms produced the following results. Type III sideroblast dominant HA was observed in three of 63 cases. Two of the above three cases had what we call “atypical factor...
متن کاملPrevalence and distribution of ringed sideroblasts in primary myelodysplastic syndromes.
In order to determine the prevalence and percentage distribution of ringed sideroblasts in primary myelodysplastic syndromes, the results of Prussian blue staining were analysed in 133 cases. Ringed sideroblasts ranging from 1 to 86% of cells were found in 76 (57%) cases. The cases of primary myelodysplastic syndrome corresponding to the group entitled "acquired idiopathic sideroblastic anaemia...
متن کاملMolecular and clinical features of refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts associated with marked thrombocytosis.
We studied patients with myeloid neoplasm associated with ringed sideroblasts and/or thrombocytosis. The combination of ringed sideroblasts 15% or greater and platelet count of 450 x 10(9)/L or greater was found in 19 subjects fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARS) associated with marked thrombocytosis (RARS-T), and in 3 patients with primary my...
متن کاملCombined silver Perls's stain for differential staining of ringed sideroblasts and marrow iron.
During a study of nucleolar organiser regions, a modified silver stain was found to be a sensitive marker for the iron in ringed sideroblasts, more so than Perls's stain when the marrow iron stores were low. To enhance the usefulness of the silver stain, a combined silver Perls method was developed. This stains the ringed sideroblast iron black and haemosiderin blue, thus rendering the detectio...
متن کاملFactors Influencing Leukemic Transformation in Refractory Anemias with Excess of Blasts, with Ringed Sideroblasts, and without Ringed Sideroblasts1
The association between leukemic transformation and various features recorded at presentation in patients with refractory anemia with excess of blasts and with or without ringed Sideroblasts was analyzed in 255 patients using the proportional hazard model. Features associated with higher transformation rates were: higher values of blasts in peripheral blood or bone marrow; serum haptoglobin; vi...
